Flight operations in Chandigarh were further affected on the second day of the strike by the pilots of Jet Airways. Both the direct flights from the city — to Delhi and Mumbai — did not operate. The operations would remain suspended on Thursday too.
The 60 passengers who had booked to fly on Jet Airways, on Wednesday were provided either a full refund or offered rebooking on an alternate date without any cancellation or re-issue charges. Other airlines are, meanwhile, benefiting from the strike as the percentage of bookings in some of them have increased by around 60 per cent.
Indian Airlines has reported an increase in passengers — from an average of 90 passengers to 152 — on Wednesday. The officials claimed that the airline is not charging any extra fare in the wake of an increase in demand. Go-Air too agreed that though a majority of its passengers include the walk-in passengers, the number has marginally increased in the last two days. Adding to the scarcity in the flights from city, the Delhi and Mumbai flights of Kingfisher would not be operational from September 10 to 17. According to the airline sale staff, all the three airlines (two for Delhi and one for Mumbai) will remain closed due to maintenance reasons. Only the Chandigarh-Jammu-Srinagar flight is operational.
