Out and about: Gulzar’s epic move

Prithvi Theatre has an unusual treat this weekend for its visitors. Pavan K Varma's Yudhishtir and Draupadi, which has been abridged and dramatised by Gulzar, will be staged on Saturday. Yudhishtir and Draupadi is a long poem in rhymed sonnets. It is based on one of the episodes of the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas encounter the Yaksha of the Poisoned Pool. This has Yudhishtir trying to answer the Yaksha's questions correctly to bring four of his brothers back to life and to protect Draupadi. As Yudhishtir does so, the audience is given a rare insight into some of the most fundamental questions of life, love, death and benediction. This 70-minute play offers a new perspective to the uneasy relationship between Yudhishtir and Draupadi. His austerity and straightforwardness come in the way of his passion for Draupadi, who loves Arjun above everyone else. The complex interplay between the two gives the poet the opportunity to meditate on key aspects of men and women in love. The play is designed and directed by Salim Arif. Its main actors are Amit Bahl and Lubna Salim

Reinterpreting Shiva

In his ongoing exhibition, titled "The Story of Shiva", artist Bharat Tripathi attempts to demystify Lord Shiva. Having grown up with the image of a dark man — body covered in ashes, wild locks of hair with Ganga flowing from them and snakes around his neck — for the god, the discovery that the shivalinga represents the male phallus with female yoni at its base, opened up for him several doors for reinterpretation of Shiva. The paintings that were its result are now up for viewing.

Festive Tune

The Peek-a-Boo club will hold a show called "A Global Voyage with Santa" on Sunday. Children from Lokmanya Tilak Institute for Deaf and Mute will perform to spread the message of love, peace and togetherness. The children will dance to various songs pertaining to different countries of the world.
