Hours after former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda was discharged from the Apollo Hospital here on Sunday, the Enforcement Directorate served a notice summoning him to its office in New Delhi on November 13.
Although Koda, who returned to his official residence here, preferred not to react to the summons, an aide said the former CM will take a decision after consulting his lawyers. Similar summons have been sent to the other accused, asking them to be present at the ED office between November 11 and 13.
The Income Tax Department here, however, plans to restart Koda’s interrogation from Monday. “We hope this time he cooperates and helps us finish his questioning at the earliest,” said I-T Additional Director (Investigation) Ajit Srivastava. Since only Basant Bhattacharya responded to the I-T department notice, he said, the department was looking at other options, incuding arrests. Asked if the sleuths had recovered any documentary evidence proving Koda’s bussiness deals with the other accused, an evasive Srivastava said: “Many documents, files, CDs and computers were recovered during the searches. These are being studied minutely.”
The Medical Superintendent of Appolo Hospital, P D Sinha, said Koda was medically fit to go home. “That is up to him (Koda) and the IT...he has been discharged as he is medically fit,” Sinha told reporters when asked whether Koda is fit to be questioned.
