“Sita came to know about her father’s death around 4 pm. Shocked by the news, she consumed acid from a bottle in the house. We immediately rushed her to L G Hospital,” Dabhi said.
Police inspector L P Gandhe, however, said they were yet to ascertain the actual reason behind the incident.
Thakore, the police said, used to work as a daily wage labourer and had consumed spurious liquor on Wednesday night.
Thakore’s wife, Leela is bedridden for the last several years. The couple had three children, Sita, her sister and a brother. “Sita was the eldest and used to work as a rag picker,” said another neighbour, Sushila.
