As many as 348 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth
Rs 7 lakh crore were signed in oil,gas and power sectors on day one of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit (VGGIS) 2011 here on Wednesday.
D J Pandian,Principal Secretary of the state Energy and Petrochemicals Department,said some of these MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Industries Minister Saurabh Patel at the Mahatma Mandir.
There were two rounds of signing,one for conventional energy sources and the other for non-conventional energy.
The large MoUs in the conventional energy group included one worth Rs 30,000 crore with Reliance to set up a 7,200MW plant,Rs 22,000 crore with GVK group for a 4,000MW coal-based plant,Rs 20,000 crore with the Adani Group for a 3,300MW plant,Rs 11,000 crore with Jindal for a 1,980MW plant,Rs 13,600 crore with Sintex for 1,720MW plant,and Rs 10,000 crore with Torrent Power for a 1,980MW plant.
The conventional power sector had two historical MoUs one for 50 MW tidal energy generation in the Gulf of Cambay by a UK-based company,Atlantis,and another for an unspecified amount of electromagnetic power generation with a Canadian company.
The GSPC and IOC also signed an MoU with the state government to build pipeline to take the states oil and gas till Jammu and Kashmir,Pandian said. Suzlon also signed an MoU worth Rs 6,000 crore to generate 1,000MW of wind energy.
