Other accused Navdeep Jindal, owner of Jindal Associates, sent to a day’s police remand
Turning down the plea of the police seeking custody of the accused for three days, a lower court on Wednesday sent an employee of Kumar Brothers to judicial custody for 14 days.
The accused, Varinder Kumar, was arrested on Tuesday after the police seized surgical material worth lakhs from a leading chemist shop in the city — Kumar Brothers in Sector 11.
“Varinder is only an employee of the shop and not the owner, he worked as a salesman and his job was just to bring medicines and items to the counter. How can he gain knowledge of any such nexus as claimed by the police,” the defence counsel said while opposing the plea of police remand. The counsel added that Varinder was being falsely implicated in the case.
On the other hand, the police claimed that they need to gather information on the quantity of duplicate items the accused had brought and sold. The police also said that Varinder had disclosed during interrogation that a person from Delhi came to the shop earlier this year and offered small pieces of prolene mesh, surgi cells and suture, which are used in surgeries, at cheap rates.
The person first gave some samples and then supplied surgical equipment at throwaway prices, the police said.
Requesting that they need to verify the credentials of the person from Delhi and from where he procured the surgical items, the police said it is necessary to establish how much quantity was bought and sold.
