Oz cricketer sets ‘five wickets in one over’ world record

Pine Rivers cricketer Nathan Murray claimed a record-breaking five wickets in one over, including his first-ever hat trick, in Australia's Warehouse Cricket A3 North Division recently to achieve a feat that many international players have failed to accomplish.

The right-arm pace man took two wickets to be on a hat trick, missed the feat with his third ball, but claimed three straight wickets with the next three deliveries and it meant in the space of six balls, the 18-year old fast bowler claimed five wickets for no runs, the Courier Mail reports. It is a feat never achieved in international cricket, with the closest being Pakistan swing maestro Wasim Akram who claimed four Test wickets in five balls, while Sri Lankan slinger Lasith Malinga took four wickets in four balls in a one-day international, the paper added. After achieving the magnificent feat, Murray said he had been on a hat trick about five times already this season so it was good to get his first one. It was a change of length, away from the traditional third ball yorker, that finally delivered Murray the hat trick.

The Kallangur product dropped the final ball on a good length to draw the batsman forward and watched it hit the top of middle stump. Their opponents, the Bond XI, had been cruising at 1/200 until the devastating spell from Murray. Murray has 28 wickets at the excellent average of 10.5 this season and helped the Pine Rivers side sits comfortably on top of the A3 North ladder.
