    Ricky Ponting’s Australia emulated Steve Waugh’s run of 16 consecutive Test wins as they beat India by 122 runs in the second Test of the four-Test series at Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday (January 6)

    Ponting also became the first captain to win 16 consecutive Test matches. When Australia had won 16 consecutive Tests between 1999 and 2001, Steve Waugh led the team in 15 matches and Adam Gilchrist was the captain in one Test match against the West Indies at Adelaide 2000-01

    Australia will now head into the Perth Test aiming to better their own record of 16 straight Test wins

    Michael Hussey scored his maiden century in the fourth innings of the second Test match against India by making an unbeaten 145 runs in 340 minutes off 259 balls with 16 fours. It was his eighth century in 33 innings of 20 Test matches. Only Australian Don Bradman (13 centuries) and West Indian Geroge Headley (10 centuries) scored more hundreds in thefirst 20 Test matches

    Sourav Ganguly became the sixth Indian batsman to score 1000 runs against Australia in Tests. He achieved this feat duing his 51-run knock. It was the 32nd inning of 18 Test matches against Australia. Sachin Tendulkar (2102 runs in 43 innings of 23 Tests), Venkat Sai Laxman (1654 runs in 33 innings of 18 Test matches), Rahul Dravid (1592 runs in 37 innings of 20 Tests), Sunil Gavaskar (1550 runs in 31 innings of 20 Tests), Gundappa Viswanath (1538 runs in 31 innings of 18 Tests) and Dilip Vengsarkar (1304 runs in 38 innings of 24 Tests) were the other Indian batsmen who scored more than 1000 runs against Australia before Ganguly, who scored 1045 runs till the Sydney Test
