Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy moved into the men’s doubles semi-finals after a tough win in three sets over Wesley Moodie of South Africa and Belgian Dick Norman. The Indo-Czech duo had earlier beaten the pair in the final of the French Open this year, and on Tuesday, they had to fight back strongly after the seventh seeds ensured the match would go into a decisive third set. However, Paes and Dlouhy stayed steady for a 6-3 5-7 6-4 win. Paes will also face Moodie in the Davis Cup playoff in South Africa in a week’s time.
The third-seeded duo of Bhupathi and Mark Knowles quelled the challenge of the unseeded pair of Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei and Israeli Dudi Sela 6-4 6-4 in the third round.
Mahesh Bhupathi and his American partner Liezel Huber, seeded No 1, cruised to the semi-finals of the mixed doubles following their emphatic 6-4 6-3 win over eighth seeds Bethanie Mattek of the US and Serbian Nenad Zimonjic.
Second seeds Paes and Cara Black of Zimbabwe had to face stiff resistance from seventh seeds Rennae Stubbs and Robert Lindstedt before prevailing over them 7-5 3-6 10-6 in their mixed doubles quarter-final. In the junior boys’ singles, Yuki Bhambri zoomed off to another win, losing just a game in a 6-0 6-1 win over Switzerland’s Sandro Ehrat. Sudanwa Sitaram lost to local lad Alexander Domijan 3-6 6-3 5-7.
