Pak Air Force plane flown by a woman pilot crashes

The Chinese-made F-7 jet crashed at Kalur Kot Khakkar near Mianwali.

A fighter jet of the Pakistan Air Force flown by a woman pilot crashed during a routine training flight in Punjab province though there were no reports of casualties or damage to property on the ground.

The Chinese-made F-7 jet crashed at Kalur Kot Khakkar near Mianwali due to a technical malfunction,PAF said.

The woman pilot,Flying Officer Nida,ejected safely.

The aircraft was on a ‘routine operational training mission.’ No loss of civilian life or property was reported.

The Air Headquarters ordered a board of inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The F-7,which is based on the Russian MiG-21 design of the 1960s,forms the backbone of the PAF.

Pakistan is currently the largest foreign operator of the F-7 though the PAF intends to phase out the ageing jet by 2015.
