Pakistan army will remain in Swat and other restive areas in NWFP where they are conducting operations against the Taliban till complete peace is restored, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Monday.
"Troops will remain in these areas till people who fled their homes do not return and peace is restored," Gilani said at an all party meeting convened to discuss the military operations against militants in Swat and adjoining areas.
Gilani said operations against the terrorists were being conducted with "great success".
He said, "The capacity of law enforcement agencies will be improved so that they can effectively enforce the law in those areas and enemies of the country cannot dare raise their heads again."
"Those who destroyed the peace are on the run in disguise," Gilani said, in an apparent reference to reports that Taliban militants were fleeing from Swat after shaving off their trademark beards and cutting their long hair.
The government is convinced that every citizen is backing its efforts to ensure the country's security, he said.
Recommendations and suggestions made in Monday's meeting of the political parties will be incorporated into the national security policy, he added.
The government had adopted a policy of dialogue, development and deterrence to end militancy but the militants saw it as a sign of weakness, Gilani said.
Once the government approved the implementation of the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation to enforce Islamic laws in Swat and Malakand division, it had been expected that the militants would lay down their weapons but this did not happen, he said.
