Raman Srivastava, Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), will visit Bhuj on Saturday to take stock of the situation in the Rann of Kutch following the arrest of nine Pakistani nationals last week.
BSF officers said Srivastava will visit the forward posts bordering the neighbouring country.
He will also visit Koteshwar in the disputed Sir Creek area with a view to get first hand knowledge of the difficult and extremely hostile terrain the BSF is manning in the Rann.
According to the officers, Srivastava’s visit will help speed up the decision making process with regard to framing policies and stepping up security in this sector.
He will also hold meetings with senior BSF officers regarding the induction of two All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) and two hovercrafts in the Rann, most of which remains inaccessible during the monsoon.
Meanwhile, sources said that various agencies engaged in interrogating the infiltrators have still not found any incriminating material from them so far.
The agencies, however, are looking at the possibility of the infiltrators being on a reconnoitering mission.
BSF officers said that though the arrested persons were carrying fishing nets and other equipment, they did not have much catch with them, despite the fact that they had entered the creek two days before being caught.
“As the creek is rich in fish, it is impossible to believe that fishermen cannot not get good catch for two days,” said a senior BSF officer.
He added that the quantity of fish seized from them was only a few kilos, just enough for the nine persons to survive for a day or two.
