Saying that Pakistani leadership lacks "political steel in their backbone", a powerful American Senator charged them of not convincingly telling their people about the US-led anti-terror operation in the same rhetoric they are telling to the outside world.

"They politically do not have it inside themselves to tell the Pakistan people why we are doing it and that they are aware of it. They do not have that kind of political steel in their backbone. I have been in politics long enough to understand that. I do not condone it," Senator Carl Levin said at a Congressional hearing.

Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Levin said this is one of the issues that has troubled him in recent times.

"I think that in terms of recent events, that the Pakistan army is showing a much greater willingness to take on the enemy for their own sake... not because we are asking them or we are paying them, but because from their national security perspective, it is in their interest," he observed.

"I do not know how much that has been transmitted to the Pakistan people. I know it is transmitted through interviews in the London papers, but that is not the same as the President and the Head of the Army in Pakistan transmitting that to the Pakistani people themselves," Levin argued.

Levin said he is trying to find out the degree to which the statements that they have made recently reflect that they are made publicly in Pakistan.

Another thing which has troubled him, Levin said is the constantly criticism of the US for its drone attacks inside Pakistan.

"I guess yesterday, the day before, we got a number of very high-level targets. There is civilian casualties, which obviously are to be minimized and regretted. But when we knock out high-level targets, terrorist targets, Taliban targets that are out to destroy the government of Pakistan, the least we can expect, I believe, from the Pakistan government is silence," Levin said.

"What I can't understand and do not accept is the attacks on us, the criticism on us, because what that does is undermine the effort. Every time they attack us as being foreigners attacking their sovereign soil, they are creating another generation that are after us instead of after the terrorists," Levin argued.

The Geie is out of the BottleBy: Giri Girishankar | 11-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Before the militants and extremists emerged on Pakistan's national scene, they were created and nurtured and employed in the territory of the neighboring nations to the West and the East with a view to bleeding the neighbors. Taliban was the creation of the Pak Army and LeT was that of the ISI. In course of time, the two have started collaborating. It was a matter of time before they challenged the sponsoring state itself. The heat in the kitchen has become too much to stand. The Pak President has been rudely awakened to this ground reality. Pakistan President has openly conceded that Pak 'created and nurtured' terrorists for short term benefits. Pakistan has only itself to blame for the mess it is in. The time has come for the Pakistani nation to realize this fact and correct itself. Its double game has to stop. Hatred against its neighbor cannot be the driving force for too long. It will soon drive the country over the cliff.
These American so called Top Brass >>By: Muralidharan | 10-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward These good for nothing American top brass will say that the Pakistani leaders dosent have the back bone to fight terrorism one day and the next day they will provide Pakistan with trillions of U S dollars as aid which the Pakistanis use to grow their terror camps . What is that these Americans have done that they are now sure that what ever aid money was given to Pakistan during General Musharaff period has in turn been given by Musharaff to these terror outfits and a sizable portion he has pocketed himself now he goes around the world as if nothing has happened what is that U.S has done ??? He is scott free enjoying life around the world .U.S should first try him and bring him to book as it was during his 9 years tenure as Army Chief and President of Pakistan Terrorism has grown to such great extent. Will U.S do it?? Do they have the backbone to do it??Only Time will tell>>Till then better they keep quiet>>
Double game?By: nauman | 10-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward If it is double game from Pakistan then what about those money, weapons and other latest technology which recovered by Pakistan army in Swat, Balochistan and Waziristan. U people of India,American and Israel has no right to talk like this. Pakistan army is fighting against those terrorists which are supported by ur governments. And now Pakistan has almost done his work in Swat as our PM announced. We as a nation support our Army against those elements who are supported by terrorist countries like India, America and Israel.
Pakistani people are virulently anti- amaerican because they are pro-fundamentalistic.By: Dr.CHAITANYA KADA | 10-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward It is a good thing that the top brass in the US are realising the games pakistani politicians are playing with the world. At any given time, there will be hundreds and thousands of brain washed fundamentalistic madrassa educated fanatic pakistani citizens willing to attack Amaerica,India and Israel only because we don't bow before their medieval and cultist beliefs and practices. They wage a constant jihad against us untill we submit to their maddness.America cannot be complacent in thinking that pakistani politicians are helping them to fight terror. They are doing so just because they now have no option. When things become normal, pakistani mischief starts again in the form of international terrorism. One last sentence and advice to USA- BELIEVE PAKISTANI PEOPLE AND ITS POLITICIANS AT YOUR OWN PERIL.
