Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor said on Wednesday that increase in Pakistan's atomic weapons stockpile, if true, was a cause for concern for India. "There is a degree of deterrence for one's protection, but this is beyond that. They are going well beyond what can be called 'deterrence'," said Kapoor, while addressing media persons on the sidelines his visit to Pune's Artificial Limb Centre and the Armed Forces Medical College.

"If these reports are true then, it is definitely a matter of concern for us," he said. On Tuesday, reports quoted an American scientist saying that Pakistan has amassed a stockpile of 70-90 nuclear warheads, up from its previous known figure of 60.

On repeated Chinese incursions along the Indian border, Kapoor said it was a difference of perception on both sides about the actual line of control and not a cause for alarm. "The solution lies in resolving the border issue," he said. "It is perceived by us as incursion. We also patrol up to what we think is the border, which might be perceived differently on their side," he said. Kapoor, however, did not comment on the Chinese denial that it had not violated the line of control.

Kapoor also said that the numbers of these 'incursions' had remained more or less the same as compared to the same period last year, 20 in June, 21 in July and 24 in August. "It is not a cause for alarm. We have regular border meetings, where such questions are raised," Kapoor said.

Pak Nuclear StockpileBy: Jawahar Lal | 03-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Pakistan is only wasting it's resources in increasing it's nuclear arsenal. Will it be allowed to use it's whole stock of say 90 bombs? Nuclear strike by Pak will invite a lightning retaliation crippling it within minutes. But India too will suffer beyond repair. It will be a total destruction for both the countries and it's immediate neighbours. Rulers of both the countries muststop this mad race. USA which dominates the world must warn all such countries to desist from making nuclear weapons and try to establish a nuclear free world.
What are you saying, my man?By: Sukumar Pradhan | 04-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Are you sure they care for any such things? They want to finish us even if at the cost of their own annihilation. These are mentally sick people we are dealing with. That's how they are brought up. And who the hell are you to advise USA? they know what they are doing. If any one does not know these worldly ways, it is us.
Rising Pak Nuke StockpileBy: SC | 03-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Pak's Nuke Stockpile will continue to grow regardless of the world opinion. India must prepare for the worst scenerio.1. Redouble its efforts to provide a credible missile defense shield with the help of US and Israel. This should include monitoring Pakistani airspace through its satellites and land, air, sea radar system 24/7.2. Redouble its effort to build a credible scond strike capabilities based on the proven triad system in the West. Also, make the Pak military rulers aware of the overwhelming second strike capabilities of India. Let it be known that India will never start a nuclear war but has the power to cause a total destruction of Pakistan should that nation start a nuclear war against Inida.3. Out-spend Pakistan in future defense system with the objective of driving that country bankrupt same as what US did to Russia.
Paki intentBy: Rajesh | 03-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward I remember Jaswant Singh saying during Kargil that if Pakis used a nuclear weapon on India, they will be wiped out in return. Now the Pakis are making sure that India will not get a chance to hit back. It is now an existential threat to India in the hands of Islamists next door.
Pakistan probably trying to balance American presence on it's east.By: Sudesh Bhardwaj | 03-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Irrespective of civilian rule on face, the army and a hardcore lobby actually seems to rule from behind the curtain in Pakistan. Their ideology is crystal clear from their doings: they are the mai-baap of Taliban, also the mai-baap protecting Al-Queda till the 'dog' started to bite the same hand feeding it, and mai-baap of illusion to fool America to gather all the aid and 'modify' it against India. The same mai-baap is under dual heat, with America on their border trying to undo the past ignited by them. The only way apparent to them to go ''''forward', is to amplify their stockpile. But, this is unikely to take them anywhere, as the vast majority may explode or be ruined within their own boundaries if actually put into action. This will not scare America or India away into oblivion. Probably, the only option left is to exhibit sanity, but that could be a rare commodity.
we indianBy: narinder | 02-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward we Indians are breeds of peace loving peopleand that is why have been ruled hundreds of years by others. still we have not learnt a lesson. Be brave and bold like Isreal ,a small ,but great country. But what public can do, unless we get a brave, bold, courageous leaders. God save my country.
Re: we indianBy: Harshit Gupta | 03-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Yeas, what can public do, except electing Congress and stooge Manmohan Singh back to power over and over again. Right?
We have to help us out of this situationBy: Kalidas M | 03-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Harish, you have identified the problem (Congress), so have many others. So many again, are suggesting getting help from US, Israel w/o realising why should they? No one wants to have a half scared nit wit for a friend who does not know how to hold water when threatened. We have to put our heads together and start working our way out. As I see it, we do not deserve any help from other than us. That we do not deserve and won't get.
