When the national selection committee dropped Yuvraj Singh from the Test squad, the ostensible reason was his form during the disastrous tour of Australia. There were indications that it also had to do with his fitness, but it now emerges that his “attitude” , too, contributed to it.
According to top officials of the BCCI, the Board has decided to take a “serious view” of the player’s “nightlife.”
While BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said the board was not going to probe into a report from Pakistan that said that three players, including Yuvraj, partied late into the night before the Asia Cup final, an official said they were, in fact, looking into the incident.
According to Pakistani daily Jang, Yuvraj, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma attended a late night party at Karachi’s French Beach on the eve of Night before final, Yuvraj partied till 3, says Pak daily
the Asia Cup final. The report said that the players returned to the hotels at 3 am after the party, thrown by friends in Karachi. Yuvraj, Raina and Sharma scored 0, 16 and 3 respectively in the final, all falling to spinner Ajantha Mendis.
“The Board is looking into the matter. If it is true, it will be dealt with very seriously,” a top official said.
One of the national selectors also said that “it’s high time Yuvraj learned a lesson the hard way,” warning that his lifestyle and lack of concern for fitness would not be overlooked anymore.
