Pak says we may want Kasab, won’t get him

  • Two days after admitting that the Mumbai terror attacks were launched from its soil, Pakistan’s interior minister Rehman Malik said on Saturday that it might seek the custody of Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist captured during the Mumbai terror attacks.

    Pakistani investigators have filed criminal cases against eight suspects, including Kasab, and if the court asks for him, Pakistan will seek his custody from India, Malik told reporters. “It’s premature but when the name of a person appears in an FIR, he is needed in the case... We will do it when our investigators think he is needed here,” he said.

    (India, however, did not react to the comments attributed to Malik in media reports. But, sources in New Delhi told The Sunday Express that it is certain that India will not hand over Kasab to Pakistan.)

    Meanwhile, a report in the Dawn quoted a Pakistani foreign ministry spokesperson as saying, “India (must) come clean on the multiple facets of the Mumbai tragedy and expose the names of persons...in India who were also responsible for acts of commission and omission...”
