  • Naming Lashkar operative based in Pakistan as one of the conspirators in last September’s serial blasts in the Capital, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Friday filed two fresh chargesheets. The chargesheets are in connection with the blasts at the Central Park, Connaught Place, and the recovery of a live bomb from India Gate.

ACP Sanjeev Yadav of the Cell said Abu al-Kama, a Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba operative, along with two others “took care of all the logistics and also gave directions” to the Indian Mujahideen members to carry out the blasts. In their final chargesheet in the September 13, 2008 serial blasts, the police have identified Shahzad Ahmed and Mirza Shahdab Baig for planting the bomb, which was defused, at India Gate. Mohammed Saif, Mohammed Sajid, Zia-Ur-Rehman and Khalid have been named as conspirators who planted bombs at the Central Park.

The Special Cell has added three new names — Abu al-Kama, Saif-ur-Rehman and Mohammed Ariz — to its list of ‘wanted’ in connection with the September 13 serial blasts. According to the Special Cell, the three are among the “main conspirators” of the blasts.

According to the police, some ragpickers had chanced upon the bomb at India Gate — the police claim the children “pulled some wires”, due to which “the bomb did not explode”.

Saif and Zia-Ur-Rehman are currently in judicial custody; the others named in the fresh chargesheets are yet to be arrested.

The Cell also filed two supplementary chargesheets against Sadiq Sheikh, Kayamuddin Kapadia and Hakim in connection with the blasts at Karol Bagh and Greater Kailash police stations. The Cell has invoked various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including waging war against the country, Explosive Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, against the suspects.

    ... contd.
