Pakistan a 'hapless prey to terrorism': Pak development minister

Condemning the acts of terror, a Pakistan minister said his own country was a "hapless prey to terrorism" due to which over 40,000 persons lost their lives in recent years.

"Pakistan herself was a hapless prey to terrorism which had taken a heavy toll of about 40,000 persons there in recent years," said Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Planning and Development Minster of the Pakistan.

Terrorism, triggered through a foreign conspiracy, had acutely hit both India and Pakistan, he said.

The minister was part of a delegation which made a brief stop over at a restaurant on NH-8 en route to Jaipur and Ajmer.

The delegation also included Afeez Mian Mohammad Nomaan, legislator from Lahore, a former deputy commissioner Kabir Ahmed Khan.

Addressing a gathering at the restaurant, Khan said, "No religion allowed butchery of human beings and terrorists belonged to no religion."

He said both the countries had now realised that instead of spending their precious resources on proliferation of nuclear weapons, all available money and resources should necessarily be spent on the betterment of the lot of our impoverished and needy people.
