Complaining about the health hazard that the unauthorised dumping ground has turned into, residents of Sector 23 demanded on Friday that the site be shifted to some other area. Submitting a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, they also asked the Administration to stop dumping garbage in the area till then.

The vacant land spread over 10 acres houses litter from the entire township, even as Haryana Development Authority says it has no land to spare. Garbage dumping vehicles of the Municipal Corporation and HUDA have been using the land to throw garbage for over five years now.

Residents of Sector 23 rued the area has become a major health hazard, with no one willing to take accountability for the same. The residents complained that the mounds of garbage thrown in the ground have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes with the situation to worsen in the monsoon. They also rued that not clearing the site might also manifest into an epidemic in the area.

Meanwhile,DC Ashima Garg said,“We are working on the details of an alternative site and hope to acquire the same shortly. Also, the garbage treatment plant in Jhuriwala is under construction. The state is waiting for some clearances from the Ministry of Environment.”
