A 21-year-old management student died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a movable staircase allegedly left unattended in the middle of the road by Metro workers in Golf Course area,Sector 38-A,in Noida on Friday night. Shortly before this accident,another man,identified as Sunil Kumar Sharma,had collided with the staircase,the police said. Doctors at the Bharadwaj Hospital,where Sharma is admitted,said he was critical. Police officers said Gaurav Vij,a student of Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (IILM),was returning to his hostel in Greater Noida after dropping a friend home. Vij was a resident of Sector 21 in Panchkula. He had come to Morna to drop one of his friends. On his way back to Greater Noida around 11.30 pm,his motorcycle collided with the staircase; street lighting near the construction site was poor too, Anil Samania,Station House Officer,Sector 39,said. Vij was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police said his family has been informed about the incident. The SHO said Sharma,though injured,went to the hospital on his own. Sharma,a resident of Chalera,works with a Sony showroom in Badarpur area and was returning home when the accident occurred. The police have registered a case of civic negligence under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) and Section 427 (mischief causing damage of amount of more than Rs 50) of the IPC at Noida Sector 39 police station. The case has been registered against unknown Metro officials or whosoever is responsible for the incident; in this case may be the contractor. We are investigating further, Samania said. An official spokesperson of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said there was no negligence on the part of the authorities.
