Panel visits SSNNL dam site

  • A committee constituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forest visited the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) dam site recently.

    The committee has been formed with an aim to access, survey, study, plan and implement safeguard measures for the SSNNL project in Gujarat, Maharasthra and Madhya Pradesh.

    Chairman of SSNNL N V Patel said: “A committee formed by the Centre visited SSNNL, Kevadia. However, I am yet to confirm their aim of visiting the dam site.”

    Meanwhile, sources said the committee was on a three-day tour (January 8 to January 11) to SSNNL dam site as well as Sardar Sarovar Dam downstream and will soon submit a report on the status of resettlement and rehabilitation at the site.

    Besides, the team also visited Indra Sagar project at Madhya Pradesh, SSNNL irrigation, fisheries and canal division as well as SSNNL command area.
