After having installed High Performance Computing (HPC) in Tanzania,Russia,Ghana and other nations,city-based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C- DAC),is all set to change lives of people in three more countries.
The HPC’s of India’s Param supercomputer will provide technological analysis in avalanche warning system in Grenada along with Vietnam, where topics such as bioinformatics, climatology and seismic studies will take the centrestage. In Armenia, technical areas such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD),Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and structures will be in focus.
“We have been setting up HPCs in various countries across the globe. We started with Russia about two decades back,Ghana in 2003 and Tanzania in 2009. The results have been phenomenal – both technically as well as strategically. As a result, many countries have shown interest in our HPCs. Countries such as Armenia,Grenada and Vietnam are in the pipeline now,” said Hemant Darbari, executive director,C- DAC.
The HPC Solutions (HPCS) group in C-DAC has a team of around 38 scientists who are responsible for setting up HPC centre at particular location.
The project is in the advanced stages in the Eurasian country of Armenia, where the cluster is being set up under Enterprise Incubator Foundation. “The deployment of HPC is already over. The shipment has already gone with the necessary equipment. A feasibility study has identified CFD and FEA as the application areas. Currently, the site is being readied and the project should be launched within two months from now,” said Goldi Misra, group coordinator and head,HPCS group.
Grenada has expressed interest in Param HPC for avalanche warning system. “The proposal is being worked out and we should soon have it in final stages. Moreover,we will be soon signing a MoU with Vietnam as the formalities regarding proposal and feasibility study are over. Both these centres should be functional within two years,” added Misra.
