Inspector General of Police Parambir Singh is planning to take legal recourse against former Commissioner of Police Hassan Gafoor for his remarks that he and other senior officers dithered from "responding to the situation" during the 26/11 terror attack.

"What Gafoor has said was malicious and incorrect and I will soon take legal action against him for defaming me," said Singh, former Additional Commissioner of Police (ATS).

In an interview to a magazine, Gafoor had said "a section of senior police officers refused to be on the ground and take on the terrorists. By doing so, they chose to ignore the need of the hour."

Apart from Singh, Gafoor had taken the names of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deven Bharti, former Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K L Prasad and former Additional Commissioner of Police (Southern Region) K Venkateshan.

"I have submitted my role to the Pradhan Committee and I am sure it has been mentioned in their report submitted to the government," Singh, currently posted as IGP at the Konkan region, said.

Claiming that he was one of the first senior officers to have reached Girgaum Chowpatty after lone surviving gunman Ajmal Kasab was captured, Singh said, "I have been seen on several news channels at Hotel Taj and Oberoi."

Reacting to the charges, Bharti said, "I do not believe in groupism and do not want any certification from anyone."

He further said, he does not know what prompted Gafoor to pass such remarks, which was totally uncalled for. "It is sad that with such remarks, Gafoor is portraying a wrong side of the police force to the nation," Bharti said.

Parambir Singh to move court against Gafoor's outburstBy: Abdulmajeed Khan Advocate | 21-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Sir, When wisdom will prevail upon us. The event of 26/11 left the statements of the than Chief Minister, who claimed such incidents occour in big city, why Mr. Karkaray had not been fully escorted and statement of then than police Commissioner Mr. Gafoor, all requires answers without using emotional statements. Let Mr. Parambir Singh go to court of law, in this regard and the court will definitely take the consideration further the statement of Mr. A.R. Antulay also, who too disagreed with the government's action in tackling the 26/11 event. I predict Mr. Parambir Singh will be also have to face the same fate like Mr. Gafoor from the government. former PM of Pakistan Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, personally in his emotional statements, claimed, Indian Airline Plane Hijackers, Mr. Hashim Qureshi and others will stay in Pakistan, because they high jacked Indian Airline Plane and destroyed it at Lahore.Statement of Mr Hashim Qureshi is in court records, claimed his identity as indian spy.
Some truth to itBy: cb | 21-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Indian police force has never been ready to deal with these situations. It is a systemic problem. No particular party to blame. All have neglected this issue. System and procedures have to be put in place to deal with these situations.
