  • Withdrawal of para-military forces from Jammu and Kashmir is an ongoing process and there is no time limit for the same, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said here today.

“It is an ongoing process. Five or six CRPF Battalions have been removed and two Indian Reserve Battalions have been inducted. But, there is no deadline... it is an ongoing process,” Omar told reporters after his 30-minute meeting with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Asked whether any lapses were noted in yesterday’s militant attack in which two CRPF personnel were killed, Omar said initial information suggested the Standard Operational Procedures (SoP) had not been followed properly.

“We did discuss the two incidents involving the security forces. Clearly, some changes in SOPs which has been laid down need to be effective.

Instructions have been given which need to be circulated down the line. Little more strengthening is required which is being done,” he said.

Giving details of the meeting, Omar said, “obviously, we have close level interaction with the Central government particularly with the Home Ministry and specially now when the J and K government is going through a transition from post militancy to handling law and order situation."
