Doctors Suicide at PGI : Seniors were harassing him
A day after a junior resident doctor at PGI allegedly committed suicide, his parents met Inspector General of Police Pradeep Kumar Srivastava and demanded a fair probe into the incident.
The body of Nagendra A V,who was from Bangalore, was found near the parking area of the institutes Kairon Block on Monday.
His parents dismissed the suicide theory and said the doctor was harassed.
Nagendra was a bright student. He was a brave man and could never have committed suicide, his father Ayeppa Reddy said. He had told his mother that some of his seniors were harassing him but we had suggested that he should leave the job and return. In fact, his ticket was booked. So we cannot believe the suicide theory.
The postmortem of the body was conducted on Monday after which it was handed over to the family.
The police said prima facie it appeared a case of suicide but they were exploring all angles.
We are investigating the death from all possible angles. Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide, SSP S S Srivastava said. The parents were satisfied with the police investigation so far. We have assured them of a thorough probe.
Srivastava said Nagendras laptop was being scrutinised for more clues.
The doctor had come to the city in January. He lived in the doctors hostel on the campus.
PGI,meanwhile, has not initiated any inquiry into the matter. But the Residents Welfare Association, which includes two resident doctors and is headed by a faculty member, has been asked to look into the incident.
We are still shocked by the turn of events. Its very early for us to comment. We are waiting for the police inquiry to get over. As far as the allegations of ragging are concerned,we have to understand that residents are employees of PGI and are responsible. The question of ragging does not arise, PGI spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar said.
