Parents on tenterhooks as curfew clamped on city

Amrit Indo Canadian Academy principal Jaskiran Kaur too closed down her institute before noon.

Around 11 am,the news of curfew in old city area spread in the city following which Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar also closed down with a notification that the school will remain closed on Tuesday as well.

Meanwhile,parents of wards studying in different schools remained on toes till the time their children were back. Shuchita Vaidya,mother of two,said,“I called up the school authorities to confirm if the school would be closed before time today. As we live near Kailash Chowk,I was worried abot the safety of my kids in wake of the curfew.”

Despite of the ongoing tension,Guru Nanak Dev University,in Amritsar did not cancel the annual exam today. According to sources,“The university did not give clear-cut instructions to colleges for not conducting the exam. It was told that if all students reach before exam,it can be conducted else it should be cancelled. However,the university has cancelled tomorrow’s exam.” The sources further revealed that following the university’s instructions,the exam of Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Education was conducted from 1pm to 4 pm at DRV DAV Centenary College in Phillaur,where students reached on their own. The staff of the college reached the examination centre after walking 3 to 4 kilometres on foot due to tension in villages.”
