New York-based Kuldeep Singh married Lovejeet Singh Virk on September 29

A New York-based girl who defied her parents and married a man of her choice is now struggling to save her marriage from the wrath of her parents and other relatives.

At a press conference held today, Kuldeep Kaur, a resident of New York, USA, claimed that she married Lovejeet Singh Virk on September 29 and even registered her marriage. Kuldeep added, "My parents do not approve of this marriage and are trying to implicate my husband and other family members in false cases. I even fear for my life as some people in the police are very close to my parents."

On her step to come out in open over the issue, Kuldeep says, "By doing this, I just want to tell my parents that I am happy and no body from Lovejeet's family has forced me to marry him." Kaur added, "My parents must understand that as I'm above 18 years of age I can choose a husband for myself," she said, adding that she wants her parents to stop harassing her and his new family.

Talking about her coming to India, Kuldip said that, "I boarded a flight and landed here on September 18. We got married on September 29."

In a complaint filed to the NRI Cell, she alleges that her parents and relatives are trying to implicate her husband in false cases. "Even a few unidentified persons threatened my in-laws at their home in Tajpur area. A few of our relatives serving at high posts in police are helping them in doing so," she claimed adding that she apprehends loss of life and liberty at the behest of her parents.
