New Delhi: Actor Aamir Khan, facing protests for supporting the Narmada Bachao agitation, on Sunday accused political parties of trying to bully him. He said he was in support of the project so that water could be available for all four states concerned, but also wanted rehabilitation of the affected people. ‘‘These are the political parties which promise to take us ahead... to look after us... to look after the poor and the needy. They are using force, they are trying to bully (me),’’ Khan told NDTV.
He said that political parties in Gujarat were protesting against him and it was very easy for a political party to gather a few hundred people for burning posters of his movies and hitting his posters with shoes. ‘‘The political parties in Gujarat are trying to protest against me... I want the nation to watch this footage very carefully ... This is the way they operate.’’ The star of Rang De Basanti, the movie which has since been withdrawn from many a theatre in Gujarat, said he knew the problem of water scarcity that people of Kutch faced. ‘‘I lived in Kutch for over six months while shooting Lagaan...’’ PTI
