Stung by the criticism of Mayawati’s birthday bash by the Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh, the Bahujan Samaj Party cadres across NCR commemorated the day as ‘Virodhi Party Dhikkar Divas’ on Thursday.
The cadres criticised Opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party for the hype and hoopla surrounding Mayawati’s birthday celebrations.
Celebrations were held across Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad on Mayawati’s 53rd birthday and party workers shouted slogans criticising the opposition leaders.
Surendra Nagar, the Lok Sabha prabhari of the party, held a meeting in Greater Noida along with Rakesh Gautam, the district head of the party. People from Badalpur, Mayawati’s ancestral village, were also invited to the function held at Ambedkar Bhavan in Surajpur.
Criticising Opposition parties, Nagar said, “Allegations of corruption are baseless as party workers celebrate Behenji’s birthday out of their respect for her.”
“Opposition leaders themselves have enough cases of corruption against them,” he said, hinting at the criticism by Samajwadi leaders Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav a few days back.
Amar Singh had alleged that money given by BSP’s partymen as gift was a way of turning black money white.
Singh had also asked the Election Commission to derecognise the BSP and has written to the President and the Prime Minister demanding a CBI probe. BSP leaders had then reacted by demanding a CBI probe into the donations made to Singh by the Clinton Foundation.
Functions were also held in Delhi and thousands of people gathered at Fatehpur Beri in South Delhi, where Kanwar Singh Tanwar, the general secretary of the party’s Delhi unit, held a rally.
