Paswan bats for quota in pvt sector, judiciary

Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday said he would march to Parliament along with “ten lakh supporters” to demand reservation for backward classes in the private sector and the judiciary.

Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday said he would march to Parliament along with “ten lakh supporters” to demand reservation for backward classes in the private sector and the judiciary. He was speaking at a function to mark the 39th anniversary of the formation of Dalit Panther,a social organization which works for uplift of Dalits.

He said private sector has become big but there is little representation of SCs and STs and other backward classes in the private sector.

“To correct this, there should be a provision of reservation for backward classes in private corporations as well. Less than 1 per cent people in media business are Dalits. This need to be corrected. We will demand reservation for backward classes in the judiciary,” he said.

“The Ranghnath Mishra commission which recommended reservation for minorities should be implemented immediately. To get the demands met,all oppressed and like-minded people should come together,” he said.

He criticised Anna Hazare and team for “working towards a bill to weaken a constitutional and elected government”.

“These people staging hunger strikes want to finish the rule of the Constitution. As long as there’s the power of vote every person in this country is powerful. We should and will oppose the movement,” he said.
