  • The Gujarat High Court, on Tuesday, rejected the bail applications of the six accused teachers in the Patan gangrape case, earlier convicted by the Patan Fast-Track Court this March.

A Division Bench of justices A L Dave and J C Upadhyay had heard the six on Monday and had reserved its order for Tuesday.

The Bench rejected the individual bail applications of the accused, saying it is not inclined to grant bail at this stage of the trial.

The accused have been identified as Manish Parmar, Ashwin Parmar, Kiran Patel, Mahendra Prajapati, Suresh Patel and Atul Patel.

This March, the trial court had sentenced the six to life imprisonment, the maximum punishment for the offence.

They were convicted under charges of gangrape, criminal conspiracy and allied charges. Kiran Patel, who is physically handicapped, was also convicted for unnatural sex.

Besides, Judge S C Srivastava of the Fast Track Court had slapped a fine on Rs 10,000 each on the six convicted, to be paid as compensation to the victim.

Following their conviction, the six had challenged the verdict of the Fast Track Court in the High Court.

They had subsequently filed bail applications in the High Court too.

The victim student was studying in the Primary Teachers’ Training College in Patan, where she was repeatedly raped and sexually abused by the six college teachers for months.
