  • The logo of the Patiala Municipal Corporation was unveiled on Monday in the absence of a number of ruling party leaders and municipal councillors. As chairman of Patiala’s District Planning Board and former MLA Surjit Singh Rakhra unveiled the logo, many of mayor Ajit Pal Kohli’s detractors were conspicuous by their absence.

Interestingly, while Rakhra who till now had been seeking the ouster of Kohli as mayor was present at the function, his supporters who had been spearheading the Kohli-ouster campaign were not present today.

Sources say that only 18 councillors of the ruling party were present during the event.

Shiromani Akali Dal’s Patiala urban unit president Inder Mohan Bajaj was also absent from the show and so was his councillor son Amrinder Bajaj.

The ruling SAD has 35 municipal councillors in the MC House with 50 councillors, while the alliance partner BJP has nine. The Congress has four and two are Independents.
