  • Trouble erupted at SSKM hospital after Saifunnisa Biwi (65), who was allegedly injured by Trinamool Congress supporters on September 26 at Pursura in Hooghly district, died today.

Senior leaders of the CPM immediately rushed to the hospital and claimed that Saifunnisa was a veteran supporter of the party and she was killed by Trinamool supporters.

The CPM leaders initially threatened to march to the residence of Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee. The decision, however, was later withdrawn after some senior CPM leaders objected to it.

“Anil Bose, ex-MLA of Pursura told me in the morning that he would gather people and reach the hospital. From there, there will be a rally carrying the dead body heading towards Banerjee’s residence,” said Pratim Chatterjee, Minister of State for Fire and Emergency Services.

“However, I objected and told him that there is no need of holding a rally unnecessarily. It may spoil our culture. Later senior leaders like Shyamal Chakraborty, Madan Ghosh and Anjan Bera agreed with me,” added Chatterjee.

Meanwhile, Trinamool leader Madan Mitro also arrived at the spot with his supporters. A huge police force led by Deputy Commissioner, south, Supratim Sarkar was deployed inside the hospital premise.

A senior SSKM official on condition of anonymity said Saifunissa’s body had been sent for post-mortem.
