Patil aims to turn Chandigarh into a model solar city

Solar photovoltaic systems will soon be installed in all the government offices of the city while solar water heating systems are likely to be installed in all government residences.

Solar photovoltaic systems will soon be installed in all the government offices of the city while solar water heating systems are likely to be installed in all government residences. This was decided during a review meeting of various projects,held under the chairmanship of Punjab Governor and UT administrator Shivraj Patil.

The meeting was attended by the heads of all the departments of the administration.

Patil held a discussion regarding making Chandigarh a model solar city. He asked the Director,Science and Technology,Santosh Kumar,to install the solar equipment.

Brijendra Singh,Director,Food and Supplies,while briefing the Administrator,stated that from September 2011 till date,there had been 100 per cent lifting and distribution of all kinds of PDS commodities. Further,the quotas of June,July and August 2011 were also lifted and distributed to the registered beneficiaries under the PDS scheme through the fair price shops. He also spoke about the salient features of the smart card-based PDS project and status of its implementation.

The Administrator then directed Singh to take necessary steps regarding the increasing number of fair price shops in the city. The shops could be allotted to self-help groups,co-operative societies and other applicants.

To increase the number of beneficiaries,Patil directed the Director to issue ration cards to people living in slum areas,colonies,rickshaw pullers,bus drivers,domestic servants,teachers,police personnel and also include officers and staff of the UT,Secretariat.

Patil directed the Finance Department to speed up the existing projects and complete them as soon as possible. He directed that the project initiated at the Government Medical College as well as the third phase of schools and colleges also be completed.
