Patil committee promises to do its best in 2G scam

The one-man committee of retired judge Shivraj V Patil, appointed to look into the spectrum allocation, promised to do its best.

The one-man committee of retired Supreme Court judge Shivraj V Patil, appointed to look into the spectrum allocation procedures and policies during 2001-2009,today promised to do its best.

“It’s a matter of responsibility. Will do whatever best we can do”,Patil told PTI here.

Asked if four weeks would be adequate to submit the report,he said he would not like to say anything now unless he saw draft terms of reference by which he can make out the nature and volume of work.

Patil said he is yet to receive the terms of reference. He is assuming charge on Monday.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal announced yesterday that the one-man panel would “examine appropriateness of procedures (adopted) by DoT in the issuances of licences and allocation of spectrum during the period 2001-2009”.

The government’s announcement came a day after the Supreme Court favoured widening the probe to cover the period of the NDA regime also.

BJP has rejected the committee, saying it was not even a Court of Inquiry and only an executive appointed committee and stuck to its stand for a JPC probe.
