  • The BJP criticised the Centre for "controversies surrounding" the Batla House shootout and said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi remained silent on the issue while Home Minister Shivraj Patil appeared "supportive" to the cause of anti-social elements.

"The Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi have not spoken a word on the controversies and Home Minister Shivraj Patil appears supportive to the causes of the anti-social elements," senior BJP leader V K Malhotra said.

He said a "blind race" was going on to seek an inquiry into the incident in the Batla House which has severely dented the confidence of the police.

Accusing the Congress of trying to gain political mileage from the controversy, the deputy leader of Lok Sabha said, the party wants to fight the coming assembly polls in Delhi taking help from terrorist elements.

"Congress wants to fight the election by taking help from Jehadi elements. The glorification of terrorist elements is very unfortunate," Malhotra, who is BJP's chief ministerial candidate in Delhi, told reporters.

"The blind race to demand a probe into the encounter has affected the moral of police," he said, adding it is an insult of the police official who sacrificed his life for the country. It is polarisation between Hindus and Muslims. They are more concerned about vote-bank politics," he said.

Claiming that the Jamia Nagar area has become a "den of anti-social elements" where even police and media persons are not being allowed to enter, he said "I am concerned about security of the people living in the area."
