PAU union continues stir for pending arrears

The PAU Employees Union continued its protest on Wednesday demanding the release of pending arrears. The union had earlier organised a rally in front of Thapar Hall on Tuesday, the day Union Minister of agriculture Sharad Pawar visited the varsity to inaugurate the 7th national meet on KVKs, to register their protest against the dillydallying attitude of the Punjab government and PAU authorities in releasing the 70 per cent arrears of revised pay scales which is pending since two years. Thousands of employees participated in the rally raising the slogans against the Punjab government and PAU.

Talking to The Indian Express, Paramjeet Singh Gill, president of the union said: "Our salaries are updated but the non-teaching and class IV staff of the university is still waiting for their arrears which are pending after government revised our grades. We were bound to get 40 per cent arrears by May 2011 and another 30 per cent by May 2012 but government has missed both deadlines. We cannot even expect that 30 per cent arrears pending for May 2013 will be released on time. The total amount pending is around Rs 20 crore for 3,000 employees of PAU. We are agitated. Why is disparity only with us? Teaching staff of university has got their arrears then why not us?"

Dr Gulzar Singh Pandher, general secretary of union said: "The protest will continue in coming days till funds are released."
