While the state government has announced implementation of UGC pay scales for teachers in the state, the protest by Punjab Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (PAUTA) continues. The teachers claim that their protest will continue till the Secretary for agriculture clears the file regarding the revised pay.

PAUTA vice-president Harmeet Singh Khingra said: “The state has sent the file to Secretary (Agriculture) for clearance. We have been told that there is a certain hitch and that the university had to submit certain information before the final approval. We have submitted all the information and hopefully our case will be cleared soon.”

Khingra, however, added: “Our president Dr K N Sharma has decided that the dharnas being held outside the Thapar Hall will continue. It has also been decided that departments will take turns to hold the protest. The Department of Economics and Sociology will organise the first dharns while other departments too have been given their dates.”
