His party workers feel he should become PM,but NCP chief Sharad Pawar said he understood what was the ground reality and was not given to 'irrational' thinking.

His party workers feel he should become Prime Minister, but NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday said he understood what was the ground reality and was not given to “irrational” thinking.

“I understand what is the ground reality….I don’t think in an irrational way,” the Agriculture Minister told reporters when asked to comment on the issue.

Pawar, who is contesting this time from Madha constituency in Maharashtra, preceded his remark by noting that his party was contesting around 35 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.

A meeting of NCP workers at Nashik earlier this month had seen top leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) vowing to ensure that Pawar becomes the country’s next Prime Minister.

“The 10 crore people of Maharashtra will vote in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections with the one-point agenda of the Prime Minister’s post,” NCP’s state unit president R R Patil had said at that meeting.

Several party leaders, including Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, had said only Pawar has the “capability to lead the country”.

Pawar had also later said that there was a feeling among the people of Maharashtra that the state should get an opportunity for the top job.
