Pawar: Prune civic administrative expenses

Lauds Navi Mumbai MC for showing the way

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has called upon civic bodies in the country to reduce their administrative expenditure and provide better amenities to the people.

Citing an example of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, which spent 10 per cent of its budget on administration annually and provided good amenities to the citizens, Pawar said the "other civic bodies should follow it". He appreciated the services provided by the Navi Mumbai MC in housing, roads, water, health and education sectors.

Pawar was speaking as a chief guest at the inauguration of an amusement centre at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai of Thane district on Saturday. He also launched an e-library for the city on the occasion.

Among others present on the occasion were Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, Minister of State for Urban Development Bhaskar Jadhav and

CIDCO Chairman Pramod Hindurao.

Naik lauded the work done by the corporation and said soon water transport would be started between Navi Mumbai and the Gateway of India to meet the growing demand.
