The Board of Control for Cricket in India is preparing an important Annual General Body meeting later this month, but from all indications, any problems revolving around the handing over of power have already been taken care of.
BCCI president Sharad Pawar will take over as ICC president later this year, but he seems to have ensured that there will be no shaking up of the system once he makes the step up.
Shashank Manohar, for example, has already been anointed as the president-in-waiting and is expected to fill that post without any opposition. Sources say that Manohar has canvassed extensively for BCCI treasurer N Srinivasan, the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), to become the next secretary — a move that is “as good as finalised.”
Pandove’s term as joint secretary comes to an end this year, while Jagdale’s term as national selector too is over. “MP Pandove (from Punjab) and Sanjay Jagdale (Madhya Pradesh) are front-runners for the post of treasurer and joint secretary (respectively),” the source says.
Niranjan Shah, whose term as secretary will also come to an end, is expected to be placed on the governing council of the IPL, as Pawar wants to hand out the treasurer’s post to the north zone.
These moves, incidentally, mean that Jagmohan Dalmiya, who made a comeback of sorts as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), will not be given a chance to get his foot in the door, at least at these elections, as even the other ‘hand-out’ posts are expected to be decided by Pawar himself. “Anyway, once Manohar and Srinivasan are president and secretary, it’ll be a two-man army,” a source said.
