PC wasnt part of conspiracy: CBI

Contending that the Finance Ministry note obtained through RTI had no new revelations to make in the 2G scam,the CBI on Monday said that its investigations showed that Home Minister P Chidambaram was not part of the conspiracy.

Nothing new is revealed in that note. We have known these facts all along. Our investigations so far show that Chidambaram,as finance minister,was not a part of the conspiracy in the 2G case. The finance ministry was always opposed to (former telecom minister A) Rajas stand, a CBI source said.

He was referring to the note sent by finance ministry to the Prime Ministers Office in March thsi year,saying Chidambaram,as the then finance minister,could have stopped Raja from going ahead with wrongful allocation of 2G spectrum.

The source said that the CBI had not been in possession of this particular note but the facts presented therein was known to it through several other papers.

He said the statement of the then Finance Secretary D Subbaro,currently Governor of Reserve Bank of India,had made it very clear that the Finance Ministry had always favoured an auction of the spectrum.

Earlier in the day,Law Minister Salman Khurshid also expressed a similar opinion about the note.

I have seen it. I dont think it has anything about which the government has to worry, he said.
