  • A police van was set on fire at Sapdhara as a 72-hour bandh called by Maoist-backed PCPA in Jhargram sub-division of the district affected normal life on Thursday.

The People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA) started the bandh at 6 am this morning to protest the baton-charge of its supporters by police yesterday. As the bandh began, PCPA activists set afire a pick-up van of the police near Jhargram town. The bandh affected normal life in Jhargram sub-division with vehicles off the road, shops and markets closed and thin attendance in government offices.

The PCPA had claimed that 30 of its supporters were injured in the police baton-charge.
