Even as the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker is set to proceed on the privilege motion against PDP MLA Muzaffar Beigh, sources say he may be asked to apologise before the House for his remarks against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the House.

While Omar himself struck a conciliatory note after resuming his job last Friday, saying he was ready to leave the allegations behind and work together with the Opposition, the National Conference is not planning to withdraw their privilege motion.

"The motion will be sent to the seven-member House privilege committee on Wednesday or Thursday," Speaker Mohammad Akber Lone told The Indian Express "The committee will hear the 12 MLAs who moved the privilege motion, as well as Beigh. The decision will be put before the Legislative Assembly for vote later. "

Sources say that another option the Speaker has before him is to suspend Beigh for the rest of the Budget session. The PDP leader's worry does not end with the privilege motion alone, with Lone also planning to initiate proceedings against him for contempt of the House.

The 12 legislators who moved the privilege motion against Beigh include Abdul Rahim Rather, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mubarak Gul, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Taj Mohiuddin, G M Saroori, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Raman Bhalla, T Namgyal, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Yaseen and Nasir Aslam Wani. They charged the PDP leader with levelling allegations against Omar in violation of proper procedures and set business rules.

MrBy: Sahil Sarhadi | 06-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Sir, There is a critical difference between the charges leveled against the CM and Mr. Beigh. The case against Mr. Abdullah is whether he was involved in exploiting hapless kashmiri women and abuse of public office. The charges against Mr. Beigh relate to personal conduct. Even if Mr. Beigh had all the relationships he is alleged to have had, there is no suggestion that any of these relationships were driven by his position as a politician or involved exploitation. If the allegations against him are correct, he would appear to be a womaniser, at worst. Having any involvement with the 'sex scandal' is a different story. Young and helpless women, some as young as fifteen, were drugged and then forced into prostitution with high ranking politicians, bureaucrats and security chiefs. This is an issue of public importance and public outrage. New Delhi will be well advised to pursue justice and not to protect influential individuals. It stands to lose more moral ground on the ground.

Dr.By: Sahil Kashmiri | 06-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Sir, Irrespective of the merits or demerits of Mr. Baig's allegations against the CM, the fact remains that 'the sex scandal' did involve some of the most influential politicians, babus and security big wigs in the J
action against the mr BeighBy: sudhansu Gantayet | 05-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward The jammu and kashmir assembly is in the limelight because of the irresponsible behaviour of the PDP memebers .They have betrayed the trust and culture of the peoples of jammu and kashmir. The allagation raised by meheboba mufti and folled by mr Beig has really taken the people by surprise. The behaviour of the PDP memebers shows their desperation and their mind set to seat in the oppo sition. They have to accept the vedict of the people and prepare themselves to seat in the opposition for six years .The allegation raised by mr Beig is really a unfotunete one and needs strigent action in order to stop these types of allgation in the assembly in future.
J and K assembly dramaBy: D.a.srinivasan | 05-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Sir This has reference to the previlege motion agisnst Beig in J,K assembly . He misbehaved in the Assembly to deningrate the chief Minister. The charges made against the C.M was scandalous and charactor assasination, not substansiated by any facts and figures. The behaviour of the other M L A ms Mehbooba Mukti is also highly irresponsible and condemnable. These legislators who are leaders of the people should be given exemplinary punishments. There is no room for any lenienc..
