At a time when the Valley is in the grip of an unrest,Kashmiris living in the Capital organised a silent protest at Jantar Mantar on Sunday. Many families,business persons,professionals and students joined in holding placards condemning the recent killings and subsequent military presence.
Activist Naqshab Afra said,Killing of a child in police firing will evoke angry mass protests anywhere in India. Then why are Kashmiris denied even the right to protest at the repeated killings of their children in police firing or in fake encounters?
On June 11,a teenager Tufail Mattoo was killed when he was allegedly hit by a teargas shell while returning home from tuitions. After this incident,protesters took to the streets leading to more deaths.
Heena Kausar,a student,said,I am not a Kashmiri,but I support the cause of Kashmir and that is why I am here. All over India people have the right to protest,but in Kashmir this right is denied. This is unfair.
Dr Bilal Ahmed added: Watching and witnessing the killings at home from a distance is painful.
The muzzling of media and even SMSes is just a desperate attempt to prevent the Indian population and the rest of the world from getting to know what is happening inside Kashmir, said a youngster studying in Delhi who did not want to be named.
Mubashir Yousuf who works as a technical analyst said,When the judiciary fails to deliver justice,when people lose trust in the system,when all avenues of democratic protest are being suppressed,and mass protests are being met with bullets,is this democracy?
