For those who have always dreamt of turning entrepreneurs to bring in social change, this one is for you – a contest called My Idea Program, which invites students to post a good social business plan and,if selected, gives them a chance to mentorship, guidance and funding.
Organised by the National Social Entrepreneurship Forum and the Entrepreneurship Development Circle of PEC University of Technology,This is the first of its kind in the region, says Alokik Bhasin, student coordinator of the event. The project has been initiated to build entrepreneurial skills in students, something that he feels our education system fails to deliver.
We get the best of theoretical knowledge but, somewhere,we lack on the practical applicability. And even if we apply it perfectly,we totally ignore its social impact. This one contest aims to bring forth both these aspects, stresses Bhasin.
The idea being to catalyse social entrepreneurship among the youth, drive home social innovation and entrepreneurship and provide a platform to mutually learn about effective solutions to social problems of our country, the contest will be followed by a conference at the PEC auditorium from 5 to 8 pm on April 18,which will have Digital Empowerment Foundation Founder Osama Manzar,HarVa Founder & Chairman Ajay Chaturvedi and Dhriti Founder Anirban Gupta brainstorm with the students.
They will give the students an outline of how to start a business, informed Bhasin. As for the contest,it will be judged by Deepti Arya of Villgro Innovations Foundation and NSEF Director Kamini Kinger.
With students from across the city invited to participate in the event, they can post their B-plans complete with financial and manpower details at edcpec@gmail.com before April 17, chips in Fateh Singh Mann,PR manager of the event, who says that this is just the start of a new revolution.
After the contest, they plan to set up an NSEF-Villgro student chapter at the University. The first in the Punjab region,it will conduct activities like blogging competitions and idea cafes to create an ecosystem that will produce the next generation of social entrepreneurs, nods Entrepreneurship Development Circle President Mukul Kaura.
Now is the time to think aloud!
