Pedalling to prod city into eco-friendly commuting

  • Over a hundred city residents pedalled their way across the city areas giving the message of traffic hazards and global warming in order to motivate the people to use more environment-friendly ways to commute in the city.

    The participants of the rally, which was organised by La Sovereign Bicycles, an Indo-Thai joint venture, was flagged off from Pakhowal road and covered areas through Leisure valley and PAU road before it culminated at Harish Rai Dhanda’s residence.

    The rally aimed at driving home the motto “Go green, live healthy” and motivating people to take steps to keep the city pollution-free and green.

    The event was actively supported by United Cycle Parts Manufacturing Association and the members of working committee of UCPMA also participated in the rally. DS Chawla, president, UCPMA, remarked, “For Ludhiana to become a world class city, it should have a safe bicycle infrastructure, which offers the double benefit of a healthy lifestyle coupled with a pollution free environment.”

    Speaking about the use of bicycle and its benefits, Rohit Kalra, MD, La Sovereign, said, “We just hope to give cycle lovers the freedom of safety, health and fitness in their everyday life. Also, cycling should be promoted in India as it will lead to a pollution free environment and a healthy lifestyle.”
