  • No more easy entry for people coming from Nepal to India by road, asserts a June 25 directive from the Ministry of External Affairs as part of security measures that will be implemented at all places bordering UP.

Now, all vehicles crossing the Nepal-India border in Uttar Pradesh will be required to take permits from Customs authorities and go through a thorough checking process.

At present, there are nine Customs check posts in seven Uttar Pradesh districts — Pilibhit, Lakhmipur Kheri, Shrawasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj — covering the 700-km border between India and Nepal. “So far the vehicles entering the Indian border from Nepal, were neither checked nor required any permit to come into the country, but now they will be monitored,” confirmed Customs superintendent Lalmani, who is posted at the Sunauli police check post at the UP-Nepal border.
