BPCL employees have called off their strike and others will follow suit.

Officials at state-run oil firms have called off their strike that began on Wednesday and had choked the supply of transport fuels, a union leader said. "We have called off the strike in public interest," said Sanjay Varshney.

"Over 70 per cent of the people have resumed work in marketing. By this evening, we will be able to resume fuel supply at all locations.... To make up for the backlog we would work on Saturday and Sunday too," earlier BPCL Director (Marketing) S Radhakrishnan said in Delhi.

BPCL accounts for 25 per cent of the petro goods market in the country, while HPCL accounts for 27 per cent and IOC the rest.

HPCL has been functioning normally throughout.

OIL PSU OFFICERS STRIKEBy: Rajus | 11-Jan-2009 Reply | Forward It is simply amazing how ignorant and unaware, we(incl journalists, print media, tv etc) are. We dont know the difference between clerks working in govt offices and professionals working in Oil companies! We think oil PSU officers salary is paid from common man's tax! We simply take everything and anything reported in newspaper or tv as true. Politicians and Bureaucrats just exploited this lack of awareness and ignorance among common man to project the Oil officers as terrorists and traitors and themselves as angels / guardians of the society. The salaray being drawn by the Oil PSU officers was last framed in 1997. The pay supposed to revised from Jan 2007 was finalised only in Sep 2008. The revision itself is only Rs.3000 to 4000 per month and stands good upto year 2017 (minimum). Oil officers have seen a Booming India but nobody increased their pay during that period. It is not their fault that recession came when their pay revision was finalised.
goverment ruthlessBy: selvan | 11-Jan-2009 Reply | Forward Oil psu employees fighting for thier basic need of salary. But Govt has to see and negotiate instead,it is going in arrogant way.We heard employees given enough notice to govt.but govt simply rejects.Media also with out knowing information, they are affected the eployees and thier families. As a comman man govt should apologise and look into thier greivences.
Oil StrikesBy: Amit Dubey | 11-Jan-2009 Reply | Forward The medis has been irresponsible to say the least and have toed the Govt Line. The salary revision last done in 1997 was due for revision in 2007 .It's 2009 now and the same has not seen the light of day. The oil companies are not asking for addiitonal funds from the govt for payment of salaries, the salary will be paid from their own funds - where does the govt come in ? When crude prices hit USD 145 per barrel , the govt let the oil companies bleed to the extent that in One quarter , a company like IOCL made a loss of 7000 crores - who is responsible for this - the govt or the oil companies ? Oil bonds , passed on by the govt to the oil companies are just pieces of paper with a lock in period of 10 years , The Govt incidentally collects their taxes on the bonds in advance. The lock in period of 10 yrs means that the burden of payment has passed on to the mext Government - whoever it is - the Govt has also not bothered to keep any contingency funds for the payment of the oil bonds .
Serving the nation wit sweat By: ONGCian | 10-Jan-2009 Reply | Forward I am working with ONGC. All the recent bad sentiment about OIL worker is the creation of wrong reporting of news channels like ZeeNews. Also, this shows the ignorance of common man about the working of oil industry. To say that we are traitors and DESHDROHI is totally unjust and disrespect to all ONGCians who have given sweat and blood to extract some drops of oil from earth.Against all odds,we lift pipe of one ton weight, push pipes with hands of 30 mtrs length and 3 ton wt.Hot mud of more than 65-70 deg C temp used to pour over body and we have to work in this condition only in open atmosphere in every weather like 45 deg temp, chilling cold or heavy rain, this also at great height of 120 ft .I have seen many of my friends breaking their hands, legs, backs after taking every safety precautions. That too for cont 12 hrs after travelling 6 hrs .Aftr passing from ISM Dhanbad, only passion for service to the nation is the only motivatng factor.
