PFI is SIMI in another form,Kerala govt tells HC

The PFI moved the High Court after the police chiefs in four districts,where the parades were slated to be held,refused to grant permission,citing law and order issues. Senior government pleader C S Manilal told the court that althout the PFI’s plea seemed innocent and innocuous,there is danger in considering the request from the standpoint of sovereignty and security of the country.

According to the statement filed as per the direction of the state intelligence chief,although the PFI’s objectives are to protect the rights of minorities and safeguard human rights,the organisation is clandestinely engaged in criminal activities apparently with the objective to “defend Islam’’.

PFI activists are involved in 27 murder cases,mostly of CPM and RSS cadres,said the government’s affidavit,adding that the motives were communal. The court rejected the government’s stand on the application seeking permission for the freedom parade and directed it to inform its decision on Monday.
